Guy de la Rupelle: a brief introduction
Guy de la Rupelle is a lecturer at Reitaku University (as well as several other universities and junior colleges) and has been living in Japan since the summer of 1990. When he is not teaching or writing, he is exploring the Japan islands either with his BMW motorcycle, one of his two folding kayaks or with his beloved 1990 Citroen 2cv.

He is the author of Motorcycle Vagabonding in Japan (to date the only English-language guidebook for motorcycle touring in Japan), and Kayak and land Journeys in Ainu Mosir: Among the Ainu of Hokkaido, which has just been published in English (the 2004 version of the book was in Japanese). A French version will be published in 2006. Those books are available online through amazon.com or barnesandnoble.com, or by ordering from any Borders, Barnes & Noble, or other bookshop.

In 2003, Guy acquired a 19th century farmhouse in the Dordogne region in France. He is planning to eventually live his life between France and Japan, hoping to invite small groups of Japanese to discover the Dordogne region, rich in history (there are more "chateaux" in Dordogne then anywhere else in France, about 1200 or so) and man's origins — the Lascaux Caves are situated about 30 minutes away, near the lovely town of Montignac — but also "gastronomie" (capital of truffles and "paté de fois gras d'oie ou de canard"), not to mention rich wines from the Pécharmant area (north of Bergerac) which reminds one of flavors of Saint Emilion, and the Sauternes-like desert wines of Montbazillac (excellent with fois gras).
